Our Campus

A Working Wildlife Sanctuary & Training Environment

Cat Tales Wildlife Academy is located on a four-acre wooded site north of Spokane, Washington, within Cat Tales Wildlife Center — a working wildlife sanctuary and teaching zoo in the rural community of Mead.

Students train within an immersive, real-world environment designed to support hands-on learning, animal observation, and professional skill development.

Outdoor Learning & Practical Experience

Most training takes place outdoors on the Wildlife Center grounds, where students gain experience in:

  • animal husbandry
  • behavior observation
  • enrichment implementation
  • habitat maintenance
  • facility operations
  • conservation education

Animal exhibits are designed to support both public education and species-appropriate care while providing opportunities for structured observation and learning.

Instruction takes place throughout the Wildlife Center grounds and within the main support building, which includes:

  • multi-purpose instructional space
  • computer and animal records areas
  • natural history learning space
  • dietary preparation areas

Small Class Sizes & Individualized Training

The Academy maintains a maximum class size of 10 students, supporting individualized instruction and a 10:1 student-to-instructor ratio.

Training takes place within a functioning zoological environment housing large carnivores, native wildlife, and rescued animals requiring long-term care.

Students work with the tools, equipment, and materials necessary for:

  • safe wildlife management practices
  • animal care
  • facility maintenance
  • operational support
